Math students at Chestnut Log Middle School are exploring new realms in Mathematics.

Through Prisms Virtual Reality, CLMS Math teachers are offering students an opportunity to understand how math concepts are applied in and beyond the classroom. Ariella, a 7th grade math student at CLMS thinks VR is great for students who are visual learners. "This can help them appreciate problem solving and critical thinking in a clearer way,” says Ariella.

Math teachers are also using this opportunity to incorporate students' interests in the classroom. 7th Grade Math Teacher Daniel Smart knows the importance of giving students a sense of ownership in hands-on learning. "Prisms VR brings math directly to the students and students bypass obstacles using their math skills."

A unique resource available to CLMS 7th and 8th Grade students, Prisms VR provides students with a way to make abstract concepts more concrete. "I love VR because it shows us how we are supposed to use math and why, and it's fun."

Syndee, a 7th grade math student at CLMS enjoyed using the VR headset in her math class with Ms. Wade and Ms. Rayford-Jones. "Many of our students are gamers." says Ms. Rayford-Jones, "This touches that part of them that makes learning adventurous." Ms. Wade plans to use Prisms VR to help students identify the relationship between math lessons and the real world. "Students are taking on real world issues and pathfinding by stepping into a virtual reality," says Ms. Wade. "This is an experience that will help students use math to tackle real issues in today's time."
