Mason Creek Middle School honored 38 rising freshmen accepted into Douglas County School System magnet programs during its annual Magnet Signing Day.
Students, parents and teachers gathered April 16 in the school's media center to celebrate the academic achievement. As part of the ceremony, each student signed special certificates indicating the magnet program they chose.
“I'm incredibly proud of these eighth grade students as they navigated the important decision of choosing a high school magnet program,” Principal Dr. Tiffany Weaver said. “From applying, to accepting a magnet, this accomplishment signifies that students are taking ownership of their education and embracing a new exciting chapter in their educational career. I can't wait to continue watching them do amazing things for years to come!”
The Magnet Signing Day event has been a tradition at Mason Creek since 2019.
Media specialist Jennifer Baker said counselors Dr. Taffey Cunnien and Larosa Johnson held "Lunch and Learn" sessions in the media center to educate students about the different DCSS magnet programs, with each school getting its own dedicated day.
The “Lunch and Learn” sessions allowed for focused attention and the opportunity for students to eat while they learn.
“Our counselors do a great job promoting the magnet programs,” Baker said.
Congratulations to all Mason Creek students who earned acceptance into their desired magnet programs.
