Students in costume for Anime Con.

Turner Middle School transformed into a celebration of Japanese animation and comics recently as it hosted the Douglas County Anime Con. Students from elementary, middle and high schools gathered to share their enthusiasm for anime and manga in an event that delighted participants of all ages.

Attendees enjoyed activities including anime trivia contests, movie screenings, and cosplay opportunities where students showcased impressive costumes of their favorite characters. The event featured popular attractions such as a Ramen Cafe serving Asian-inspired dishes and a Boba "T" shop offering 11 flavors of Singapore-inspired bubble tea.

The convention catered to diverse interests with karaoke sessions, art competitions, video and board games, manga reading corners, and game show panels. A dance finale capped off the festivities.

Turner Middle School’s James Lynn created the creative outlet for local anime enthusiasts. He says the event is special because it brings together anime levels across all grade levels.

“It was a joy seeing students connect over their shared interest," he said. "The event successfully created an engaging experience that both entertained and inspired young people throughout Douglas County.”
