Two Lithia Springs High School students have been recognized for excelling at history.
Students Angel Brown and Shannelle Keru recently represented Lithia Springs High School at the National History Day competition at Kennesaw State University. The competition encourages middle and high school students to engage more deeply in historical research and analysis. Their outstanding project, "Beyond the Classroom: The Impact of the Atlanta Student Movement in the Civil Rights Movement," earned them first place in the Senior Group Division.
Stephanie Carr, AP US History and AP American Government teacher at Lithia Springs High School, is excited that the scholars represented the Douglas County School System with a passion for bringing history to life.
"Their project on the Atlanta Student Movement truly reflects their hard work, deep research, and commitment to telling stories that matter," Carr explained. "Winning first place is a well-deserved achievement, and I know they will continue to shine at the state competition. Congratulations to both of them!"
Angel and Shannelle will now advance to the state competition at LaGrange College in April.
