Students at Alexander High School will offer a wide selection of vegetables, flowers, herbs, ferns, hanging baskets, and more during the 10th annual FFA Spring Plant Sale April 3-5.
The three-day event features student-grown plants, including seven varieties of tomatoes, six types of peppers and other popular vegetables like okra, eggplant and watermelon. Flower selections include petunias, impatiens, begonias, geraniums and marigolds.
Prices range from $3 for 4-inch potted vegetables, herbs and flowers, to $5 for 6-inch potted flowers, $15 for hanging baskets and $15 to $20 for ferns.
The sale will run from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day in the AHS greenhouse. Cash and card payments will be accepted.
All proceeds support Alexander FFA students attending camp, conventions and monthly meetings throughout the school year.
FFA advisor Ryan Bragg was a senior in high school when the plant sale started 10 years ago. In addition to raising funds for the agriculture program, Bragg said the sale also gives students real-world experience in running a greenhouse business, including growing many of the plants sold, marketing the sale and practicing soft skills they’ll need in the business world.
“The students grow most of the plants from seed themselves, then transplant them and care for their every need so that we can run the business with reasonable prices for the community,” he said.
