Alexander High School gymnast Erin Johnson is making history in a big way.
The freshman is the Douglas County School System’s first-ever gymnast to compete in Georgia High School Association competition. Her performance has been nothing short of dominant so far.
Johnson took home the highest all-around score at the March 13 meet hosted by Ola High School in McDonough, shining in every event — vault, beam, uneven bars and floor exercise.
AHS gymnastics coach Jamey Stiltz said Johnson is an “unbelievably fierce competitor.”
“She’s an exceptional athlete and exceptionally gifted at what she does,” Stiltz said. “She’s blazing a trail for us.”
Stiltz notes that since Johnson is only a freshman, he has four years to build a team around her. He plans to work with local gymnastics facilities as he grows the team.
Johnson will compete in two more regular-season meets, March 28 at Villa Rica and April 4 at Bremen, before preparing for the state meet April 23-25 in Buford.
