Students at Sweetwater Elementary School are embarking on a journey of global discovery. The learning journey is taking place through a cultural exchange with the Indian School Ridge School of Kurnool, India.
The event, organized by Sweetwater teacher Rahmath Sultana and the Beta Club, introduced students to Indian culture, traditions, and educational practices. The program began with introductions from both schools' representatives, including Indian School Ridge Principal Rajkamal Matthews, Principal Tanish Springer and Beta Club Coordinator Brittany Smith.
Later, students were treated to presentations that showcased India's cultural landmarks, including the Taj Mahal and the Golden Temple. The presentations highlighted the country's festivals, cuisine, languages, and traditions. During their presentation, the students were fascinated by a demonstration of the abacus, a calculating tool that has been used for centuries in India to develop strong mental math skills in students.
"I'm thrilled to offer our students opportunities to expand their global perspective," said Principal Springer. "I'm excited to see how breaking down the walls of the classroom will positively impact student learning and foster a deeper understanding of the world around them."
