Chapel Hill girls soccer coach Shatyriah Crawford and her team are excited about a potential playoff run in 2025.

Crawford is in her fifth year at Chapel Hill and said offense will be a strength for the Lady Panthers this year.

The coach spotlighted four key players at the recent Spring Sports Media Day:

• Faryn Algarin, senior, center back

• Leah McLain, senior, midfield

• Delaney Jones, junior, midfield

• Amani Franks, junior, right back

Crawford called McLain the “goal scorer” and Algarin the “goal stopper.”

All four players also talked about their personal and team goals for the season.

Jones said the team’s goal is to make it to the state playoffs and a personal goal is to be in position to make plays.

Algarin said she’s looking forward to building chemistry with her teammates over the course of the season.

“I just can't wait to see how we perform as a team,” she said. ”And I just can't wait to see how we bond together. It's my last year, so I'm really excited to spend it with this team.”

McLain added that she hopes the team wins a lot of games and has fun doing it.

Franks said she is hopeful for a state playoff berth, especially with Algarin and McLain playing as seniors in their final season.

“I think we should definitely do it for them and for ourselves,” she said, adding that a “personal goal is really getting as strong as Faryn so I can hold it down for next year.”
