Lessons in Social Studies came to life for Factory Shoals Middle School seventh graders during their recent field trip to Medieval Times in Lawrenceville. The venue, inspired by an 11th century castle, offers a performance based on authentic Medieval history and follows the true, documented story of a noble family. According to Social Studies teacher, Keturah Auguste, the journey offered students a vivid glimpse into the Middle Ages, allowing them to engage with history in a way that textbooks simply cannot match.
Students explored important themes such as feudalism, the roles of knights and monarchs, and the rich culture of medieval society. The interactive learning environment made history tangible and relatable. “The excitement of live jousting tournaments and knightly competitions captivated our students,” said Auguste. “They witnessed firsthand the social hierarchy and traditions of the era, reinforcing their classroom learning in a dynamic setting.”
“The trip deepened students' understanding of history while making connections to social structures and cultural practices of medieval society,” Auguste added. “It was a fantastic opportunity for them to see how these concepts are woven into the fabric of our world today.”
