The Georgia Department of Education has announced the 2023-2024 Distinguished list, with Winston Elementary among the top schools honored. The Distinguished Schools designation recognizes the highest-performing Title I schools in the state and celebrates their exceptional academic success.
State School Superintendent Richard Woods commended the collaborative efforts of students, teachers and the community for achieving this extraordinary milestone.
“I am incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication demonstrated by all the students, teachers and school communities recognized today," Woods said.
Principal Heather George shared in State Superintendent Wood’s excitement, attributing Winston’s academic success to her entire school community.
“Being a distinguished Title I school is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and resilience of our entire community—students, teachers, staff and families," George said. "Earning this honor demonstrates our shared commitment to overcoming challenges and further fuels our passion to ensure that every child has the opportunity to achieve, learn, and grow.”
Distinguished Schools represent the top 5% of Title I Schools in Georgia recognized for excellence in English Language Arts and math performance on statewide assessments.
Winston Elementary stands out among 82 other Georgia schools recognized for this prestigious honor. The list was released on January 9.
