Alexander’s swim team truly is a family affair for the Scharffs.
The team is led by head coach Suzie Scharff, a teacher at nearby Bill Arp Elementary, alongside coach John Warrington, a counselor at AHS.
Adding to the family dynamic, senior Halley Scharff and her younger brother, freshman Jude Scharff, are standout swimmers on the Cougars’ roster this year. Both were recently featured at the Winter Sports Media Day.
Halley, a four-year team veteran, is known for her versatility in the pool.
“She’s a good all-around swimmer who can handle all strokes,” Suzie said.
Jude, on the other hand, has been swimming since he was 8 years old and specializes in freestyle and butterfly events.
With her sights set on making it to the state meet in the 50 freestyle, Halley hopes to finish her senior season strong.
Both coaches bring collegiate swimming experience to their coaching roles and are optimistic about the Cougars’ potential this season.
