December 6-12 was Computer Science Education Week which is a time to celebrate computer science in K12 education. Holly Springs students participated in Hour of Code throughout the week on various platforms depending on their grade level. The Media Center was the hub for students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade to use the free activities on CodeMonkey’s website while 3rd through 5th grade students accessed free activities on code.org. In addition, young learners can continue to explore these concepts at home by using links in the Media Center Google Classroom.
Media Specialist Kerry Harbin says, "The Hour of Code introduces our students to the basic concepts of coding. At this age, the Hour of Code plants a seed by showcasing the fun and engaging aspects of coding. This activity can spark interest in pursuing computer science education and careers".
