Beanstack winners

The Douglas County School System Beanstack Bingo Challenge encouraged elementary and middle school students to achieve Bingo on special cards by logging reading minutes, completing activities, and writing book reviews. When the final tallies were in, Chapel Hill Elementary and Chapel Hill Middle emerged victorious, boasting the highest percentage of students achieving Bingo during the second nine weeks of school.

Chapel Hill Elementary saw an impressive 56% of its students complete the challenge, earning the elementary championship trophy. South Douglas Elementary had previously held the trophy after winning the first nine-week challenge.

Chapel Hill Middle had 16% of students successfully complete the Bingo Challenge and will retain the middle school trophy, having won both the first and second nine-week challenges.

Dawn Taylor, Director of Literacy for DCSS, shared that Douglas County students have already logged over 10.5 million minutes of reading on Beanstack, surpassing the district’s goal of 2.5 million minutes for the school year.

“We're so excited about how this has inspired our kids to read,” Taylor said.

The new district-wide Beanstack Challenge, "Be A Reading Machine," kicked off this week, challenging students to log 20 minutes of reading every day for nine weeks, totaling 900 minutes.
