Douglas County School System families joined in two joyful holiday celebrations last weekend—Legacy on Ice at Legacy Arena and the Douglasville Jingle Jam Christmas Parade.
More than 7,100 people attended Legacy on Ice Friday, Saturday and Sunday, taking part in festivities that included ice skating, rock climbing, axe throwing, carousel rides, face painting, gaming, ornament making, and more. The event also featured over 60 vendors, including food trucks, offering a variety of treats and unique goods.
“Legacy on Ice was a magical three day celebration that brought together families in the spirit of the holiday season,” Superintendent Trent North said. “Seeing the bright smiles on our students’ faces reminds us what the holiday season is all about. We’re grateful for this opportunity to welcome families to Legacy Arena and to watch them enjoy new experiences in a fun and festive atmosphere."
Executive Director of Facilities at Legacy Arena Peyton Jackson shared that Legacy on Ice was also a great way for families from Douglas, Carroll, Paulding and surrounding counties to get to know the multipurpose arena and all it has to offer.
At the Douglasville Jingle Jam Christmas Parade on Friday, the DCSS family showed off its holiday spirit with smiles, festive floats and plenty of cheer.
Students who achieved perfect scores on the Georgia Milestones Assessment proudly waved from the DCSS float, sporting embroidered winter hats that celebrated their accomplishment.
Many schools also showcased their creativity with their own unique floats and banners as they walked in the parade. Marching bands, cheerleaders, and dance teams proudly performed, bringing energy to the nighttime parade in downtown Douglasville.
Both events are sure to create cherished holiday memories for everyone who attended.
