Six fourth-graders were recognized by the Georgia Association of Literacy Advocates (GALA) for their outstanding Book Talk videos, an initiative promoting literacy and encouraging students to share their love for reading through creative presentations. GALA’s mission is to promote literacy and equity in Georgia by providing resources and empowering advocates to improve access to reading and writing for all.
Students shared engaging summaries of their books to inspire others to read.
“The Book Talk video activity was a perfect way to allow the kids to explore our new books like 'The Hula Hoopin' Queen' and 'Casey At Bat,'” said fourth-grade teacher Thomas Bruno.
The Book Talk entries were carefully selected for publication in the 2024 GALA Focus Newsletter. Maddie Pryor and Cayla Johnson provided an insightful review of "The Hula-Hoopin’ Queen" by Godin (2017), while Noah and Luke offered their perspectives on "Casey Back at Bat" by Gutman (2007). Additionally, Cameron and Zeke highlighted "America’s Champion Swimmer: Gertrude Ederle" by Adler (2005).
Congratulations to Noah Green, Luke White, Cayla Johnson, Maddie Pryor, Zeke Akin and Cameron Wynn who each received a certificate and a $10 Amazon gift card, celebrating their hard work.
“We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all students who shared their Book Talks with us,” expressed Bruno. “We are grateful for the effort everyone put into their submissions.”
