The LEAP Center recently hosted a self-care seminar for families, caregivers and parents, reminding them to balance the fast pace of the holiday season.
DCSS school social workers shared valuable insights about the importance of prioritizing health and wellness. They covered key aspects such as regular exercise, eating a balanced diet, hydrating and hygiene.
The empowerment session also highlighted best practices for mental health, emphasizing mindfulness and meditation, spiritual connection, the importance of connecting with others who understand and seeking professional help if needed.
Nichelle Lemons, social worker at Alexander High School, emphasized the importance of self-care, sharing Audre Lorde's powerful words: “I have come to believe that caring for myself is not self-indulgent. Caring for myself is an act of survival."
The impactful event was held on Nov. 21 from 8:45 a.m. to 10 a.m., leaving participants with a renewed focus on self-care during the holiday season.
