Douglas County High School International Baccalaureate senior Mason Mifflin continues to rack up the academic accolades.
Mifflin recently received a Letter of Commendation for the National Merit Scholarship for scoring among the top 34,000 on the Preliminary SAT out of 1.3 million students who took the test as juniors.
The national honor, recognizing Mifflin’s exceptional ability and potential for academic success in college, comes on top of several other accomplishments, including a perfect 36 on the ACT.
Over the summer, Mifflin spent two weeks in France, attending classes in French at a local high school while studying with a host family. He also participated in the Yale Young Global Scholars program, where he spent two weeks studying philosophy, literature, and culture at Yale University.
And, he participated in the Summer Linguistic Institute for Youth Scholars at The Ohio State University, where he learned the foundational principles of linguistics—a field he plans to pursue in college.
“We are proud to celebrate Mason’s educational accomplishments,” DCHS Principal Kenja Parks said, adding that in addition to his academic endeavors, Mifflin “leads the Incomparable DCHS Marching Band as one of its award-winning Drum Majors, a role he takes on every Friday night with dedication and pride.”
