New Manchester High School cross country coach Chris Frazier said the 2024 season has been very productive so far.
“We have a total of seven seniors, so we are trying to send them off in style,” he said.
The girls team is led by senior Kyara Lawrence, who has placed in the top 10 in the county and region two years in a row. She also plays basketball for the Lady Jaguars, takes part in the AVID Program and is a member of the National Honor Society.
Lawrence’s best run through the first part of the season was a team-best 21:50.97 at the South Metro Classic.
On the boys side, Frazier spotlighted junior Drew Lewis, whom he said “competes at a high level” in track and cross country. Lewis is also part of the NMHS Fine Arts Magnet Education (FAME) Program and “juggles acting and being an athlete.”
Lewis has the best time for the New Manchester boys so far with a 18:16.79 at the Bob Blastow Invitational.
Looking ahead, the boys and girls are competing for a shot at sectionals and state, with the girls going for their second-straight state appearance.
