The Douglas County School System has just wrapped up the first Beanstack Reading Challenge, and two schools have been named champions. The six-week challenge, which ran from August 21st to October 2nd, encouraged students to log 600 minutes of reading books of their choice. Douglas County students have already logged over 4.6 million minutes of reading.
At South Douglas, over 25% of students met this challenge. At Chapel Hill Middle, over 21% of all students met this goal. To celebrate, each school received a Beanstack trophy to display in their building for the next nine weeks.
A new district Beanstack Bingo Challenge began this week. This time, students will not only be logging minutes read but will complete book reviews and learning activities associated with what they are reading.
Superintendent Trent North is excited to celebrate the eager readers. “I am thrilled to congratulate the winning schools in our Beanstack District Reading challenge. The enthusiasm and dedication shown by our students, teachers, and staff has been inspiring,” says Superintendent North. “These winning schools have not only logged an impressive number of books and reading minutes, but they have also embraced the joy of reading and learning."
