Factory Shoals Elementary’s School Nutrition Manager Latonia Jones recently received Georgia’s Cafeteria of Excellence Award from State School Nutrition Director Linette Dodson and State Superintendent Richard Woods. Last year, New Manchester Elementary’s school nutrition program received the award under the leadership of Jazmyn Powell.
This award recognizes school nutrition teams who uphold the requirements of menu standards, service of Georgia Grown Products, student meal participation, a school nutrition promotion plan, and health inspection scores. In addition, nominations must be accompanied by a letter of support from a district administrator.
“We are so proud of Ms. Jones and her team! The results of their hard work exceeded the requirements for this award,” remarked DCSS Executive Director of School Nutrition Danielle Freeman. “She goes above and beyond for her students every day. Ms. Jones provides compassion, quality, enthusiasm, and care for each and every one of her students she serves,” Freeman added.
Latonia Jones has been in school nutrition for over 20 years with two years at Factory Shoals Elementary. She currently serves as the district's school nutrition training manager.
Former NMES School Nutrition Manager Jazmyn Powell, who led her team to win the award last year, now serves as Menu Specialist on the district level.
According to GADOE, the award was established for school year 2022-2023
to recognize the work of local school nutrition professionals for their exceptional attention to serving quality school meals and providing excellent customer service while maintaining program integrity.
