Thanks to the support of the Douglas County Board of Education and the Douglasville-Douglas County Water and Sewer Authority, these exemplary scholars representing Chestnut Log, Turner, Chapel Hill Middle, Mason Creek Middle, and Factory Shoals Middle School will embark on an all-expenses-paid educational adventure to Australia and New Zealand.

During winter break in February, students will explore stunning sites and captivating cultures, broadening their perspectives while creating unforgettable memories that extend beyond the classroom.

Superintendent North expressed enthusiasm for the travel initiative, highlighting the invaluable exposure it offers to middle school students.

“This surprise announcement is about more than just travel. It’s about opening doors to a world ofMadison Heard from TMS with Superintendent North. possibilities. As our students travel to Australia and New Zealand, they will become ambassadors for our school system and our community. Their travel adventures are part of our school system’s commitment to providing diverse, enriching experiences that prepare our students for success in a global society.”

For eligibility to apply, all middle school students were required to have a good attendance record, a low number of discipline referrals, and passing grades. Additionally, each participant submitted an essay explaining how traveling to Australia and New Zealand would enhance their growth as productive global citizens. Each essay was carefully reviewed by a group of retired educators who selected the top 14 candidates from a pool of 207 applicants.
