Turner Middle School's Cafe transformed into a glamorous runway last week as it hosted its first-ever Quince y Cultura Fashion Show. The event kicked off the school's Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations by showcasing quinceañera gowns that blended tradition with modern glamour.
The fashion show featured current Turner Middle School students and former students now attending Lithia Springs High School. All the guests were excited to share an important aspect of Latino culture with the community. Together, they watched a stunning display of handmade quince dresses and imported gowns from Mexico.
Students Regina, Elisa, Samantha, Vanya, Yaretzi, Jasmine, Juliana, and Daysy wowed the crowd as they walked down the red carpet to their favorite tunes. To bring an authentic experience to the fashion show, students Jose, Guillermo, Maximiliano, and Jesse escorted the models down the red carpet wearing traditional Western wear. Together, the students made the event a night to remember.
"Our young ladies dazzled the crowd with their lighted dresses, sequins, flowers and glitzy glamor," explained ESOL teacher Dawn Digsby. "We were delighted our students shared their culture and memorabilia from their own Quinceañera events with our school community to teach others about this part of a young woman's coming of age in Latino culture."
Every year, Turner Middle School celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month to honor the customs and achievements of Hispanic and Latino Americans. The school organizes various classroom and school activities and events to commemorate Hispanic heritage. The celebrations began with a Fashion Show and concluded with the school's Latin Festival.
