Tyla Cann has been racking up the academic accolades during her entire four years at Alexander High School.
The senior recently added another big-time achievement when she received a Letter of Commendation for the National Merit Scholarship in recognition of her outstanding ability and potential for academic success in college.
Cann earned the Letter of Commendation by scoring a 1390 on the Preliminary SAT, putting her in the top 34,000 out of 1.3 million students who took the test.
“It's beautiful to see a student's hard work pay off for them,” Alexander Principal Lora McAdams said. “Everyone likes to be recognized for their efforts, and that is what this award has done for Tyla.”
In addition to the Letter of Commendation for her score on the PSAT, Cann also scored a 34 out of 36 on the ACT and a 1410 out of 1600 on the SAT. She is also a Georgia Merit Scholar and has been in the Top 10 in her class every year.
Looking ahead to college, Cann is considering both Auburn University and the University of Georgia, McAdams said.
