Annette Winn Elementary School is taking an innovative approach to inspire a love for reading through its “Flashlight Friday” initiative. In August, the top three classes with the most logged minutes for Beanstack were rewarded with an invitation to participate in the creative activity.
With dimmed lights in the media center, young scholars enjoyed a cozy atmosphere while using flashlights to dive into their favorite books. A star projector illuminated the ceiling with a display of the Northern Lights as students used flashlights to explore captivating books to read with their friends.
“Flashlight Friday is a fun and unique way for students to experience books and reading simply for the joy of it. Our space-related school theme this year is To Proficiency and Beyond!, so the flashlights and star projector just seemed to fit the bill,” said media specialist Lisa Burtz.
Two first-grade classes and one second-grade class were thrilled to share their love for books while fostering a sense of connection.
