MCMS Olympic Celebration

To celebrate the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, students at Mason Creek Middle School recently held their own Olympic Day.

The event, organized by Dr. Westerfield and Ms. Ramsey's classes, brought the excitement of the international competition to young learners.

Throughout the week leading up to the event, students engaged in lessons about the Olympics, its history, significance, and various events. They culminated their studies with a field day filled with activities that simulated Olympic sports, including tennis, bowling, discus, track, hockey, basketball, and soccer.

"Our goal was to give students a hands-on experience of what it means to be part of a team, just like real Olympians," said Dr. Westerfield. "We wanted them to understand the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork while having fun."

Following the sporting activities, the young Olympians engaged in creative projects that connected them to the Olympic tradition. They crafted edible Olympic torches using ice cream cones and Cheetos, decorated picture frames to commemorate the day, and enjoyed rice crispy treats adorned with the iconic Olympic rings.

The students also received their very own "gold medals" for participation. These medals, which students decorated themselves, symbolized their Olympic-sized achievements.

Ms. Ramsey says the Olympic celebration was a tremendous success. "Our goal was to give students a taste of what it's like to be part of a team, just like real Olympians," said Ramsey. "We wanted them to experience the joy of sports while learning important social skills."
