Excitement filled the air as students and teachers returned to the classroom on Thursday, August 1, ready to kick off a successful school year. School leaders warmly embraced each young scholar with enthusiasm and smiles as they anxiously arrived for their first day of classes.
New Manchester Elementary continued its welcome back tradition with the energetic presence of the 100 Black Men of Atlanta. The community empowerment organization greeted students bright and early, offering hugs and high fives as they entered the building.
Principal Tanyia Clagette expressed gratitude for the community partnership.
“We are always excited to partner with the 100 Black Men of Douglasville. It was a joy to have them here as we welcomed our Eagles back for the start to an awesome year. The smile on the students' faces confirmed that we are all eager to SOAR as we continue to operate in excellence.”
Factory Shoals Middle School students also enjoyed a memorable first day, thanks to the 100 Black Men of Atlanta. The distinguished role models chanted encouraging words while students strolled along the school bus ramp, eagerly anticipating the new school year.
Eastside Elementary School welcomed their All Pro Dads Chapter to make a first day appearance, providing valuable assistance to students as they embark on a new educational journey.
“I asked the dads if they would kick off the new school year by volunteering to help with car riders, cafeteria support, bus lane support and by greeting students as they entered the building,” said Principal Timothy Jenkins Sr.
The amazing fathers gladly accepted the request, making a huge difference for all of the students.
“I am so proud of the way our fathers are taking an active role in their child's education, and I’m looking forward to the program's continued success in years to come,” said Jenkins.
Lithia Springs High School kicked off the new school year with a senior pep rally in the gymnasium, featuring special guests Big Tigger and Jazzy McBee from Atlanta Radio Station V-103. The electrifying event was a pleasant surprise for students as teachers and administrators proudly showcased their Lion Pride.
“The incredible energy and excitement that filled our gymnasium as we kicked off the new school year with a surprise pep rally was one for the books,” expressed Principal Felicia Jones.
The talented marching band set the tone with an exhilarating performance, followed by dazzling displays from the Prancing Lionettes Dance Team and cheerleading squad. Students also enjoyed a senior versus senior citizen dance-off, and vibrant music that enhanced the mood.
Jones was inspired by the school spirit and enthusiasm displayed for the year ahead.
“As the principal, it was heartwarming to see the students come together in a positive way. The sense of unity and camaraderie that filled the room was a powerful reminder of the strength of our school community. I am excited to kick off a brand new year with endless possibilities for our staff and students.”
Chapel Hill High School serenaded their seniors with a rejuvenating drumline performance as they arrived at school, creating an exciting atmosphere and setting a lively tone for the day. The energy fostered a sense of excitement and community right from the start.
"Our goal was to make sure our seniors knew that senior year is special. By having our drumline lead the way announcing their arrival, the smiles on their faces as they paraded the halls to start the new year was priceless!,” emphasized CHHS Principal Dr. Melisha Plummer.
Douglas County Schools united in their enthusiasm for the new school year, looking forward to a remarkable year ahead.
