Superintendent
Trent North has been the Douglas County School System’s superintendent since 2017.
As superintendent, he manages the day-to-day and strategic operations of a school system with over 26,000 students and 4,075 employees.
Since he arrived in Douglas County, he has inspired student achievement, strengthened family partnerships and increased employee engagement districtwide. Under his leadership, the district has earned recognition for innovation in education at the state, regional, and national levels. In 2023, the Georgia School Superintendents Association named him Georgia Superintendent of the Year. The following month, the American Association of School Administrators named him one of four national finalists for Superintendent of the Year.
Throughout his tenure, North’s priority has remained student-focused. This “student first” commitment reflects his lifelong passion for addressing academic and social achievement by building cultures of success. In addition to an intense focus on classroom achievement, he has innovated several safety initiatives. In doing so, the district has remained at the forefront of school security technology.
North believes today’s students are tomorrow’s Douglas County. As a reflection of that commitment, the district and the Board of Education offer students a challenging curriculum that prepares them to become independent thinkers and productive citizens in a global society. In recognition of their dedication, the Douglas County Board of Education was named the Georgia School Boards Association Governance Team of the Year (GTOY) in 2024. This award recognizes the board/superintendent team that exemplifies a commitment to enhancing student achievement and fostering public education trust and support within their community.
North invests in many community organizations to further support the Douglas County School System’s mission of preparing students for success. North is a Rotary Club member, Douglas County Chamber Board of Directors member and a 2018 Leadership Douglas graduate. In addition, he serves on the Live Healthy Douglas and Cobb & Douglas Public Health boards, Douglas County Community Services Board, Douglas County Kiwanis Club, and the Douglas County Education Collaborative.
At the state level, North has also served on the Governor’s Superintendents Advisory Task Force, the Georgia School Superintendents Association Board of Directors and the Georgia School Boards Association Board of Directors. Through these various roles and involvements, North remains dedicated to advancing the district’s mission and ensuring the success of all students.
