The new Lithia Springs High School reached a construction milestone on Oct. 23 with a topping off ceremony at the campus site.
A topping off ceremony marks the point when a building reaches its full structural height and crews place the final beam. For the Lithia Springs High School community, it shows progress on a new campus that will replace the 50-year-old school.
Members of the Douglas County Board of Education, Lithia Springs High School students and staff, and Parrish Construction crew members and staff attended the ceremony.
“At this topping off ceremony, we celebrated the people building this school and the students who will fill it,” said Superintendent Dr. Trent North. “Lithia Springs High School has served this community for five decades. This new campus honors that history and gives students and teachers a facility that matches their potential. I am grateful for the Board of Education and all the people who have worked hard to bring us to this day.”
Principal Felicia Jones said the ceremony carries meaning for the school community.
“The topping off ceremony is a meaningful milestone in the construction of
our brand new, state-of-the-art high school," she said. "It is progress that we can feel and be proud of. It celebrates a foundation laid with purpose: to enhance learning, support educators, and create a safe facility that will serve students for many generations. I am enthusiastic to share what this project represents. It is a community investing in its young people and stepping into the future of Lithia Springs High School together.”
The new $215 million campus is funded through bonds issued under the Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (ESPLOST), which 61% of Douglas County voters approved. The school is rising on the same site as the original campus. Crews are building in phases so students can continue their classes at Lithia Springs High School during construction.
