First-year New Manchester High School cheer coach Carlae Chasten highlighted three leaders on her squad at the recent DCSS Fall Sports Media Day: senior and varsity captain Mya McBean and juniors Amari Barnes and Gabrielle Lewis.

Chasten said her goals for the team this season are to learn from each other, finish schoolwork and focus on goals and community outreach.

“We want to get more acquainted with our community, our sister schools,” she said.

McBean said she is excited about “creating new bonds” with her new cheer sisters.

Barnes echoed her teammate, saying she looks forward to “making new bonds with my cheer sisters and also just getting better.” She also wants to “get it right” and be “one of the best.”

“I really am excited about getting better each day, learning more, and also, obviously, getting closer with all my new cheer sisters and creating new memories,” Lewis said.
