We are excited to invite you to join us in the classroom on Thursday, November 21st and Friday, November 22nd! This is a wonderful opportunity to get involved in your child’s learning experience, connect with other families, and help create a supportive learning environment for all.
We welcome any time you can volunteer, whether it’s for an hour or the full day. You may help with classroom activities, assist with small groups, or simply be present to support the students and staff.
Your involvement is invaluable in promoting family engagement within our school community, and we believe that having families participate in classroom activities makes a significant impact on students' enthusiasm for learning.

Mt. Carmel will host our Thanksgiving meal on Thursday, November 14, 2024. Please refer to the lunch schedule on the back of this page. We can only call students out of class if it is their lunchtime, so please plan accordingly. School Nutrition will be serving sliced turkey with gravy, cornbread stuffing, carrot soufflé, green beans, dessert, and a drink.
We do ask that each guest RSVP and pre-pay in advance. The payment form will be sent home in your child's Wednesday folder on Wednesday, November 6th. Please return the form and payment back to the school no later than Tuesday, November 12th.This will help us prepare the appropriate amount of food and it will speed up the lunch line. Students do not need to pre-pay.

Do not forget about our Monster Math and Spooky Reading Night at 5:00 PM. We look forward to seeing all of our scholars in their Halloween outfits. In addition, we will have a brief parent meeting and chorus presentation.
LIGHTS ON AFTER SCHOOL: If you have a child who attends any of our after school programs, we would like to remind you of our Lights On ASP event. Lights On Afterschool is the only nationwide event celebrating afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families and communities. It draws attention to the many ways afterschool programs support students by offering them opportunities to explore interests and build new skills. Join us tomorrow, October 24th from 4:00 PM-5:00 PM.
Tomorrow, October 23rd starts our Red Ribbon Week. The theme this year is Life is a Movie: Live Drug Free. For Wednesday, October 23rd-We are reminding everyone that drugs are not in our future. Head back to the 80s in style.

WEATHER UPDATE: The Douglas County School System has been closely monitoring Hurricane Helene and the potential for heavy rain and strong winds in our area tomorrow in collaboration with the National Weather Service. According to the National Hurricane Center and our local emergency management agency, inclement weather will begin impacting our area on Thursday evening. At this time, schools will operate on a normal schedule on Thursday, September 26, 2024. However, all after-school activities and programs on that day will be canceled. In addition, all classes, after school events and activities will be canceled for Friday, September 27. Our top priority is to always maintain the safety of our students and staff. Therefore, we will keep a vigilant eye on weather conditions throughout the evening. If there are any further changes, we will promptly inform our school community. We will communicate this important information through email, text, and social media platforms. It will also be shared on social media and in collaboration with our media partners. We appreciate your understanding as we continue our focus on the safety and well-being of our school community.
Join us tomorrow for our first Spirit Night of the year. We will meet at Chuck-E-Cheese from 3:00-9:00 PM. Please pop in and play some games. Let's turn some good fun into funds for the school.

We're looking forward to welcoming our DCSS community for our annual Back to School Kick-Off on Saturday, July 20 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Please note the event will be held at the Legacy Arena, 9030 Hwy. 5, Douglasville, GA 30134, and the Clear Bag Policy will be enforced. Current DCSS students and families are invited for food, games, prizes, school supplies, and more! Community agencies offering a variety of resources will also be onsite to provide information and assistance.
All current DCSS students and families are invited to our annual Back to School Kick-off. There will be food, games, prizes, school supplies, and tons of fun. In addition to receiving school supplies to help start the year off, there will also be community agencies present offering a variety of additional resources and information.

Kindergarten Registration for the 2024-2025 school year is currently taking place. Students must have completed registration by July 9 in order to attend Kindergarten Camp, the Douglas County School System's four-day camp that provides students with a preview of the school day and an opportunity participate in fun activities, learn routines, and become familiar with the places and faces within their new learning environment. Elementary schools in Douglas County provide early bus dismissal the first 2 days of school. School will be dismissed at 1:45 PM on August 1st and 2nd. If you have any questions, please call MCES at (770) 651-4200 or call Transportation at (770) 651-2400.
