Water, Water Everywhere!

Students in grades 3 and 4 will soon know all about drinking water – where it comes from, how it’s treated, and ways to conserve it. The WSA recently donated a mobile water lab for 3rd and 4th grade teachers to use with their students. Through the books, games, and lab activities provided on the mobile cart, students will learn many science standards in a fun and engaging way. Teachers can check out the mobile lab through the district’s office of student achievement.

The mobile water lab is valued around $1,500, and Lyndsey Sargent, Communications Coordinator for the WSA, said that the WSA will replenish supplies as needed. “We are committed to supporting the teachers and students of the Douglas County School System through the Partners in Education program,” said Sargent. “Projects like this are a great way that we can make resources available to more than one school at a time.”

“These books and activities cover the features of the water cycle and the effects of water pollution, all the way to assessing water quality and careers in the water industry,” said DCSS Science Coordinator Casey Bethel. “As such, they provide invaluable relevance to the concepts students are taught. We are eager to see the materials used in our classrooms and the incredible impact they will have on our students’ learning.”

“We are grateful for our partnership with WSA and appreciate all they do for our students,” said Mandy Johnson, who heads up the Partners in Education program for the school system. “The mobile lab will allow teachers and students to expand their lab skills as well as work on literacy skills with all of the wonderful supplies.”

The WSA has been supplying Douglas County with the highest quality drinking water possible since 1986 and has never had a water quality violation in its history. WSA draws its drinking water from the Dog River Reservoir, and over the past 24 years has received multitudes of awards.
