Busy Summer for Student

Sage SmithSage Smith, a junior at Chapel Hill High School, had an amazing summer participating in three environmentally focused programs: the Georgia Aquarium Beginner Environmental Leadership Program; Zoo Atlanta Volunteen Program; and the 21st Century Leaders Envirocare Leadership Institute.

Sage logged over 130 volunteer hours at the Georgia Aquarium where she had the opportunity to interact with researchers, assist with Camp H2O, enhance the guests’ experience, and learn about the inner workings of the aquarium.

This is her second year volunteering at Zoo Atlanta where she has volunteered over 200 hours. She helped prepare food for the animals, provide hands-on experiences for guests, and work with animals in the petting zoo.

Sage spent a week on a college campus for the 21st Century Envirocare Institute.  The experience included a power plant tour, professional leadership training, high ropes course, and networking.

“Participating in these programs has pushed me to think bigger about my future and how I can make an impact,” said Sage. “I have had the opportunity to interact with people from different parts of the world and helped inspire people to care about conservation.”

Sage noted each of these programs offer amazing hands-on educational experiences and there is no cost to participate in them.
