Posted on 03/09/2022

Superintendent Trent North and the Douglas County Board of Education are pleased to announce a new leader for Stewart Middle School.

Dr. Kevin Jefferson has been selected as the new principal of Stewart Middle School. He will replace longtime Douglas County educator Dr. Donita Cullen. After 16 years in the district and four years leading Stewart Middle School, Dr. Cullen has decided to pursue opportunities that allow her more quality time with family. She will remain in Douglas County and stay involved in the school community.

Dr. Cullen and Superintendent North welcome Dr. Jefferson to his new role. “We have selected the right leader for Stewart Middle School,” Superintendent North says. “His experience, education, and proven desire to empower the lives of all students make him the right choice for this role.”

Dr. Jefferson brings 21 years of education experience to the position. He serves as the assistant principal of Douglas County High School and previously worked as assistant principal at New Manchester High School.

Dr. Jefferson earned undergraduate degrees from Southern A&M University and the University of Georgia. He later earned a master’s degree, a specialist degree, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Mercer University.

“I thank the Douglas County School System and the Board of Education for their decision and belief in my ability to lead Stewart Middle School,” Dr. Jefferson says. “I am incredibly excited by the opportunity to encourage and empower the lives of Stewart Eagles. I hope to continue the excellent work already underway. With the help of our Stewart Middle School community, we can soar together to even greater heights. I look forward to learning, growing, and developing in excellence together.”

Dr. Jefferson will welcome Stewart students at the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year.
